Stump Grinding
Stump Grinding
As part of any tree removal (either dismantle or straight fell), we always aim to cut the tree stem as close to the ground as is possible. Due to the design of chainsaws and other factors such as soil or stone contamination, a stump of some form is always left behind and this can be anything from a couple of inches to a couple of feet high. This stump may be in an area that you wish to develop in the future, it may cause a trip hazard, it may make mowing or other management of the area difficult, you may wish to replant the area or it may just be an unsightly object that you wish to be removed. This is where AG Tree Services can help with the use of our specialist equipment.
Before we begin grinding out a stump, we use different methods to ensure there are no utilities below or near to the stump(s) to be removed. We secure the area with specially designed safety guards so that any flying debris does not pose a risk to the operator, passers by or any adjacent buildings etc. Our staff will always be wearing full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and be fully trained and experienced in the use of the stump grinding machinery.
Once the stump has been removed, a mound of sawdust and chip mixed with the soil which was previously surrounding the stump will remain. The larger the stump, the bigger this pile will be as it also adds a greater amount of air into the mix as well!
Our team can remove any excess, but over time this will biodegrade and generally sinks down into the area where the stump grinding operation has been undertaken by washing into the air pores created and by compaction.
Here at AG Tree Services, we have different stump grinders for different needs.
Our smaller stump ‘pedestrian’ grinder can be lifted by 2 people and we have maneuvered this through houses on many occasions and taken it over all kinds of obstacles, so this machine is ideal for sites where access is restricted. Where we may have to get up a number of steps, for example.
Our larger tracked stump grinder is highly efficient at removing larger stumps, but its size and weight does mean that it needs a separate vehicle to tow it and isn’t always suitable for smaller sites where access is tight or where there are obstacles this machine cannot overcome.
